Things To Know When Putting Baby to Sleep

  • Normal, healthy infants should ALWAYS sleep on their backs.
  • Infants should ALWAYS sleep in a crib.
  • Choose a crib that meets current federal and ASTM standards.
  • Choose a firm mattress that fits snugly in the crib.
  • Be sure the fitted crib sheet fits the mattress and covers the mattress corners.
  • Only a fitted crib sheet, mattress pad, and/or waterproof pad should be used between the baby and the crib mattress.
  • Quilts, comforters and blankets should NEVER be placed under the baby.
  • NEVER place any covering higher than the baby's shoulders.
  • NEVER place infants to sleep on pillows, sofa cushions, adult beds, waterbeds, beanbags, or any other surface not specifically designed for infant sleep.
  • Do NOT overdress your baby. If you feel comfortable, your baby will too.

Important Information on the Proper Use of Bumpers

  • Bumpers are intended for, and designed to fit, standard-sized infant cribs. If a crib is any size other than standard, do not use the bumper.
  • In fastening a bumper to a crib, take the time to install correctly. All tie strings should be securely tied to the outside of the crib slats and posts.
  • Please check the tie strings periodically to see that they are tied securely.

Other Valuable Safety Tips

  • Do not place wallhangings within a child's reach.
  • To prevent possible risk of suffocation or entanglement, never use crib sheet unless it fits securely on crib mattress.
  • Always wash crib sheets before use.
